Born and groomed in a music loving family of Guwahati,Assam,Sabina right from her childhood started showing signs of exceptional talent in music.Her father Shri Nurul Islam who was a senior Executive officer of Assam Govt. started giving her the training.At a young age of ten she won the 1st prize in All Assam Music Competition held at Guwahati. Later while Sabina kept on developing her musical pursuits, she also simultaneously obtained 1. Graduation in English Literature, from Cotton College, 2. Diploma in Tourism, 3. Diploma in Computer Science, 4. "Sangeet Visharad" from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth in 1988. Her name already been known by the people of the land of hills as a child prodigy.

In 1997 Sabina joined the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, the dream world of every music student where after learning under the Veteran Guru of Agra Gharana Late Pandit Sunil Bose, she came under the tutelage of Vidushi Subhra Guha of same Gharana, obtaining the prestigious scholarship in 1999. Having remained a scholar at ITC SRA for 5 years, Sabina continued to learn from her Guru for 12 years living with her in a true Guru Shishya Parampara and continues her learning constantly till today. Besides,she is also guided by Pt.Vijay Kichlu a doyen , musicologist of Agra Ghrana. She has now blossomed into a matured performing artist and gives her recitals nationally and internationally. She also performs regularly in All India Radio & Indian Television channels. She is a B high artist of All India Radio, Kolkata in both Khayal and Light Classical category.

Major Recitals and Awards:

Besides Guwahati and other places of West Bengal, Sabina has also performed in other major cities of India like Delhi, Bangalore, Dhanbad, Vadodra, Amritsar, Allahabad, Pondicherry, Banaras et al. Amongst her foreign tours she also performed in the USA and Bangladesh.

In 1989 she participated in the All India National Integration Camp & Workshop,Vidyanagar,Bangalore. In 1991, Sabina represented Assam State in the category of Light Music,vocal in All India Inter College Youth Festival(ICYF) "Scolomin Saturnalia" organized by Indian School of Mines,Dhanbad Bihar and was awarded.

From 2003 to 2005 her major achievements were, she won the prestigious "Young Artist Award" under EZCC, together with a Gold medal offered by the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Govt.of India. The award was given by the then Governor of West Bengal Mr.Viren J.Shah.Later Sabina was awarded the prestigious Jnana Pravaha fellowship for being an extremely promising and budding young musician of West Bengal state. She enthralled 3000 audience at Gulabbari(Neotia House) by giving her recital.

In 2007 Sabina was invited to give her recital for the most prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy. She also was invited to sing in the age old prestigious platform of 103rd Shastriya Sangeet Sammelan, Dainik Bhaskar at Amritsar .

From 2006 to 2009 Sabina has been visiting USA regularly.She was invited to the World Music Festival "Navaratri" in Wesleyan University, Connecticut. Sabina solely represented North Indian Classical Music which was also a great achievement. She has performed at the prestigious platforms like The Arch, Chhandayan in NY. She performed extensively in the cities like Chicago, New Jersey, Albany, Buffalo, Rochester etc . She imparts education of Indian Classical vocal in NYC.

From 2009 till 2013 she performed in the major platforms of Indo Occidental Symbiosis at Kala Mandir, Kolkata and in the same year in Uttam Manch under Sangeet Piyasi organisation, IIC(India International Centre) Delhi, WWF for Thumri festival. She has performed in Auroville, Pondicherry and mesmerized the audience with her melodious performance.

From the year 2010 Sabina goes to Bangladesh regularly as a vising guru or teacher and also for programs.She performed there under ITC Sangeet Research Academy and Bengal Foundation and Fulki.

Sabina has performed recently in Kolkata’s most prestigious venues likeUttam Manch, G.D.Birla Sabhaghar,Okakura Bhavan,Gyan Manch which was organized by Sangeet Asram and Jnana Pravaha and others. She enthralled the audience with her melodious voice and talim.

The President of India His Excellency Late A.P.J.Abul Kalam appreciated Sabina as having a golden voice.Late Pandit Kishan Maharaj,Pandit RajanSajan Mishra,Vidushi Girija Devi ,Pts.Gundecha Brothers also highly appreciated her singing.

Sabina excels as a Thumri, Dadra, Kajri singer in the perfect "Poorav ang" of Banaras.She also sings Tappa and other light classical forms like Ghazal, Bhajan, sufi etc. Her tuneful voice with perfect "aakar" provides an impressive, impeccable blend of learning with perfect raagdari and gaikee on one side and aesthetics on the other.
